7/8 Inch 14KT Gold Hollow Shield St. Florian Medal, Patron Saint of Firefighters

7/8 inch polished and satin finish hollow 14kt gold St. Florian medal. The medal is shield shaped and features a raised depiction of St. Florian in the center, who is depicted as a Roman soldier with a bucket of water. Around Florian are the words, "St. Florian Protect Us". Three sides of the shield have related symbols on them: a ladder and axe on the left, the letters "FD" at the top, and a fire hydrant on the right. The back of the medal is blank with a polished finish (photograph of the back of medal will be added in the future) and can be engraved with four lines of text. Includes an elegant deluxe velour jewelry box.

Saint Florian was an officer of the Roman army who suffered death for the Faith in the days of Diocletian. His legendary acts state that he gave himself up when the government was rounding up Christians, and after making a bold confession, he was twice scourged, flayed, set on fire, and finally thrown into the river. His body was recovered by a pious woman. Since that time, he has been regarded as the Patron Saint of Fireman. Many miracles of healing are attributed to his intercession and he is invoked as powerful protector in danger from fire or water.
